New Interview on Outdoor Photography Podcast

On my recent trip to Acadia National Park, I was fortunate to meet Brenda Petrella with Outdoor Photography Podcast. Brenda is the very talented producer of this podcast, which focuses on both photography skills and outdoor skills needed to pursue nature photography. I like this approach very much - most information sources I know of focus on one or the other of these skills, but Brenda marries them up and explores both together.

Brenda invited me to be on the podcast. And surprisingly (to me, anyway), she somehow managed to find a very, very chatty version of Michele Sons, ha! There’s a LOT of information here, but if you find yourself on a long drive or otherwise at a loose end, give it a listen (Episode 33: Being Called to the Landscape). Some of the things I touch on include:

  • How life circumstances led to my passion for photography

  • Deciding to leave a high-stress career to pursue photography full-time

  • My inspiration behind the Appalachian Dreams Poster Series and the Feminine Landscape Series

  • Discussion on publication and exhibition of my work

  • Developing a signature style

  • The benefits of getting outside of my comfort zone and finding new ways of composing images

  • Creating natural abstracts with intentional camera movement (ICM)

  • How to predict and find foggy conditions

  • Converting my Honda Element into a camper van

  • And more!

I recommend looking further into other episodes on this podcast - she’s had some really wonderful guests on and there’s a lot to learn by listening! Click the links below to go there.

Thanks for the chat Brenda - throughly enjoyed speaking with you!
